Notes:

For proposals involving private-sector partners:  If new partners become involved that were not named on the original grant application at any point in the project, or new risks arise, notify the relevant granting agency. The agency will determine whether you may need to submit additional research security documentation before proceeding with the project.

For proposals not advancing sensitive technology research areas: If the nature of the research changes at any point in the project, consider whether the change could mean that the project is now “aiming to advance” one of the Government of Canada’s designated sensitive technology research areas1. Such a change would require attestation forms from researchers with named roles.

After the funding has been awarded, granting agencies can validate attestations for accuracy and compliance. Researchers found to be non-compliant could face significant repercussions, up to and including loss of funds or becoming ineligible to receive future federal funding. In cases where inaccurate information is uncovered, the relevant granting agency will determine how best to proceed while minimizing potential impacts to the project.
