Our Team

The Research Security team provides advice on how to navigate various research security and/or national security requirements while maintaining as open and collaborative environment as possible. 

Akshay Singh, Director, Research Security

I work to build awareness and understanding across UBC about guidelines such as the Government of Canada’s policies and guidelines relating to research security. I also provide advice to UBC leadership and internal clients regarding research security-related matters and facilitate UBC’s engagement with external stakeholders relevant to this subject.

Iris Cheung, Research Security Advisor

I provide support and advice to UBC researchers on the principles and practices of research security policies and guidelines as implemented by the Government of Canada. Sam Wollenberg, Research Security Advisor

Melanie Fenton, Research Support Specialist (Okanagan ORS)

I provide support and advice to UBC Okanagan researchers on navigating federal government policy requirements and guidelines related to research security when applying for and managing research funding. I also support researchers applying to natural sciences and engineering funding opportunities through my role at the Office of Research Services – Okanagan.
