Advancing Sensitive Technology Research Areas

Before applying for funding that is subject to the policy on STRAC, researchers should determine if their research could be considered advancing a sensitive technology research area.

The list of sensitive technology research areas comprises advanced and emerging technology important to Canadian research and development, but that may also be of interest to foreign state, state-sponsored, and non-state actors, seeking to misappropriate Canada’s technological advantages to our detriment.

The following activity will help you to determine first, if your project is likely to involve one of the identified sensitive technology research areas, and secondly if it is likely to be considered advancing one of these areas. An affirmative answer to both of these considerations will affect the forms required when applying to, and maintaining, any federal grant funding subject to the Policy on STRAC. Relevant guidance will be provided based on the user's response to the above considerations.
